Welcome to Year 1
In Year 1 we look after each other, always have a go, do our best and we work hard to be the best we can be!
We have a busy curriculum planned. Our topics will include work on historical figures such as Guy Fawkes; science work on humans and animals; seasonal activities each half term; an exploration of Hebden Bridge and the valley that houses it, as well as whole school projects on Festivals, One Picture, and Castles.
This Summer term we start our broad topic of Places, focussing this half term on Local Wonders. We will be exploring the human and physical geography of the Upper Valley and investigating the history of the people who lived in Hebden Bridge in the past.
Our core text this half term is a poetry anthology by Shirley Hughes called Out and About. It contains some beautiful seasonal poetry which should inspire the children to create their own as we splodge in mud, catch April showers and make dens as part of our weekly Forest School visits. Even the walk to and from Forest School will give us opportunity to study the trees and wild flowers of the Pennines, and to map our route and the features we see on the way.
Later in the term we will change theme completely as we have an exciting week of space themed activities planned for Science Week!
